The Walt Disney Co. has announced a program that will allow pharmacists to get work as pharmacy techs in stores, including its biggest franchise stores.
The program will include the use of software that can help employees quickly get jobs in pharmacies and other medical facilities.
Walmart said it will work with local pharmacies to train the techs on how to apply for the position.
The company said the program is part of its effort to recruit more pharmacists.
The company said it plans to hire a total of 3,000 pharmacy tech positions by the end of the year, and said the number of employees will grow each year.
“Our pharmacists are our most valued associates, and we believe that they will be our most valuable employees,” said Kevin Pomerantz, Walmart’s senior vice president of global operations and operations.
“By being the first to hire them, we will provide them with the training they need to work safely and effectively in the pharmacy, helping them stay competitive with our peers.”
Walmart also plans to use the program to help other businesses.
It will partner with local health care organizations to offer free or low-cost drug testing to employees who sign up for the program, it said.
Pomerantz said Wal-Marts plans to add pharmacists as soon as it has enough qualified applicants to fill all the positions, and that it will hire more of them as it sees the need.
