It’s a new pharmacy on the streets of downtown Alto, the third in the Alto neighbourhood.
The shop has been around for a few years and the owner, David Smith, says he is passionate about the idea.
“I have a lot of love for the area,” he says.
“The neighbourhood is beautiful and it’s great to be able to see people enjoying the city.”
I want to make a difference in people’s lives.
“Alto is one of Melbourne’s busiest neighbourhoods, and it is home to about 30,000 people.
Mr Smith says he sees himself as a community builder, and that his aim is to help transform Alto.
He says his focus is on helping residents move away from the suburbs, which have “been seen as a disadvantage” by his customers.”
It’s about helping the residents move towards the city and I think we’ve got a great opportunity here to do that,” he said.”
People in the area have a right to be confident and be able have their say in the community, and we want to help make sure that happens.”
In recent years, the Alsoa Pharmacy has also opened a branch in St Kilda and a pharmacy in Yarraville.
Alto has a population of more than 14,000, making it the second-largest city in Victoria.
In a statement, Mr Smith said he wanted to open a pharmacy for Alto to be the centre of its neighbourhood, as well as to be a community hub for the whole city.
It is a move that Mr Smith says is a “win-win”.”
I know that Alto is the most desirable place to live in Melbourne,” he told the ABC.”
The fact that we can bring people from other parts of the city to live and work in Alto makes it really special.
“We want to be part of the fabric of Alto and make sure we are making a positive difference to our community.”
