A list of restaurants in the United States that are allowed to serve medical marijuana, the nation’s medical marijuana dispensaries, and other medical cannabis products has grown to more than 1,000, including at least four at the heart of the debate over whether medical marijuana is a safe and effective treatment.
The list of locations, which are being released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday, covers the state of Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.
It includes more than 300 restaurants that have opened since 2016.
“For the first time, we are seeing a lot of new operators who have been able to build a large business that is focused on serving medical marijuana,” said Julie Breslauer, a spokeswoman for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which oversees the list.
“Many are focused on providing the best value for consumers, and we look forward to working with the operators to ensure they can continue to offer the highest quality, safest, and most effective products.”
The Department of Justice announced last week that it had authorized federal prosecutors to pursue charges against more than 100 dispensaries in states where recreational marijuana is legal, including one in Florida.
The department, which is prosecuting medical marijuana operations under federal law, has also opened investigations into other businesses, including those operating in California and Massachusetts, for selling recreational marijuana.
It is unclear whether the new dispensaries, which were not included in the federal list, will be included in either investigation.
In Florida, the number of restaurants that are legally allowed to sell medical marijuana has grown steadily in the past year.
The number of medical marijuana businesses is about 40,000 to 45,000 in the state, according to the Department to Public Health.
But the state’s number of recreational marijuana dispensaries is roughly half that.
The Department to Consumer Services estimates that as of March 31, the medical marijuana industry had nearly $5 billion in revenue, including sales of recreational cannabis, but has only about $1.2 billion in cash and property.
The medical marijuana business is now more than a year into its boom, with more than 4,000 restaurants operating in the Sunshine State.
That’s an increase from just over 1,500 in 2016.
There are currently more than 6,500 recreational marijuana businesses in Florida, including several new establishments, including two at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and a new restaurant in Orlando’s River Walk.
