Top pharmacy technicians in the UK are taking the opportunity to speak out about the lack of access to the profession.
In a new post on Facebook, top pharmacy technician Peter Dillons, posted to Facebook in February, wrote: “I do not believe I have a PhD, but I have done my time in pharmacy.
I know many people with qualifications but they are not allowed in the profession, so I am one of those people.””
I am a trained pharmacist who works with the NHS and I am not allowed to practise in England because the rules are so strict.”
“I know many people with qualifications but they are not allowed in the profession, so I am one of those people.”
Mr Dillons told The Times he was not a doctor and could not practise in the country.
“I am not a qualified pharmacist but I do have a qualification in pharmacy technician and that is the qualification I would use in the future.”
It’s not a qualification for the profession that is recognised by the British Medical Association but it is a qualification that I am allowed to use in order to get into the profession.
“The post has attracted more than 4,000 likes and 1,000 shares.
In the video, Mr Dillons said he was now trying to find a pharmacy technician who had a doctorates and a pharmacy diploma.”
There is not a single doctor in the world who does not have some degree,” he said.”
You don’t even need a doctor, you just need some experience in the area of pharmacy and you have that experience.
“That experience is a great asset to have.”
Dr Daniel O’Brien, chief executive of the Royal College of Pharmacists, said the post was an “appalling abuse of the profession”.
“The current system is so skewed that it is not possible to qualify for the pharmacy technician job,” he told The Telegraph.
“If we were able to access that training, it would be an amazing career boost for people who need to work in the pharmacy sector.”
“It is a very, very tough job and it is so much harder than what most people think it is.”
People need to recognise the challenges, and realise that it’s a very challenging job.
“The way we are getting there is through apprenticeships, so it’s important we get it right the first time.”
